In our view, the decision announced this week is a mistake, 在我们看来，这周公布的这个决定是个错误，

and one that deserves a second look. 确实值得好好重新考虑一下。

The reasoning behind it is understandable, even sympathetic. 背后的初衷我们完全理解，甚至很同情。

But good policy cannot rest on good feeling alone. 但好政策绝不能只靠一腔善意。

The evidence, much of it ignored, points in a different direction. 很多被忽略的事实，都指向了完全相反的方向。

When the facts change, wise leaders change their minds; 情况既然变了，明智的领导者就该改变想法；

stubbornness is not the same as strength. 固执可不等于有魄力。

There is still time to pause, 现在按暂停键还来得及，

to listen, and to get this right. 去听听各方的声音，把事情走回正轨。

We do not make this argument lightly, 我们提出这个观点绝非随口一说，

nor do we expect everyone to agree. 也并不指望所有人都能认同。

But a newspaper's duty is to say what it believes to be true, 但作为一家报纸，职责就是把我们认定的实话说出来，

even when it is unwelcome. 哪怕这些话并不中听。

The coming months will show whether these concerns were justified. 未来几个月就会见分晓，看看这些担忧到底是不是多余。

We hope, for everyone's sake, that we are proved wrong. 为了大家着想，我们真心希望是自己想错了。
