风与太阳

One day, the Wind and the Sun got into an argument about who was stronger. 有一天，风和太阳争执起来，想比比看谁更厉害。

Just then, they spotted a traveler walking down the road in a heavy coat. 正在这时，他们看见路上走来一个行人，身上裹着一件厚大衣。

"Easy," said the Wind. “这还不简单，”风说。

"Whoever can get that coat off him wins." “谁能让他把大衣脱下来，就算谁赢。”

The Wind went first. 风先来。

He blew as hard as he could — 他使出浑身解数拼命地吹——

howling, roaring, tearing at the man's coat. 呼啸着、咆哮着，死命撕扯着那人的大衣。

But the harder he blew, 可他越是用力吹，

the tighter the man wrapped it around himself. 那人就把大衣裹得越紧。

Finally the Wind gave up, completely worn out. 最后风彻底累瘫了，只好作罢。

Then it was the Sun's turn. 接着轮到太阳了。

The Sun didn't do anything dramatic. 太阳倒没搞什么大动静。

He simply slipped out from behind the clouds and shone, 他只是悄悄从云彩后面探出头，洒下阳光，

warm and steady. 温暖而又沉稳。

Little by little, the traveler started to feel too hot — 渐渐地，行人开始觉得太热了——

and before long, he took the coat off all by himself. 没过多久，他就自己把大衣脱了下来。

Funny, isn't it? 挺有意思的，是吧？

Sometimes the gentle way gets what force never could. 有时候，温和的法子反而能办成硬来永远办不成的事。
