With an election on the horizon, 眼看就要大选了，

it is worth looking past the slogans at what the promises actually mean. 咱们真得抛开那些口号，看看这些承诺到底意味着什么。

Both sides are offering plans that sound appealing at first glance. 两边抛出的方案乍一听都挺诱人的。

But who, in the end, would really pay, and who would benefit? 但说到底，最后到底是谁来买单，谁又能真正受益？

The numbers, buried in the fine print, tell a more complicated story. 藏在那些细节条款里的小字数据，说明事情可复杂得多。

One proposal promises lower costs, 其中一个方案承诺要降低开销，

though it is less clear where the savings would come from. 但钱到底从哪儿省出来，却没怎么说明白。

Another pledges more spending, without fully explaining how it would be funded. 另一个方案号称要加大投入，却压根没解释清楚资金从哪儿来。

Voters, understandably, find it hard to separate substance from spin. 也难怪选民很难分清哪些是真材实料，哪些只是公关套路。

That is exactly why a closer look matters. 正因如此，仔细推敲才显得格外重要。

Democracy works best when people vote for what a policy does, 只有当大家投票看的是政策实际能带来什么，

not just how it sounds. 而不仅仅是听上去有多动听时，民主才能发挥最大的作用。

So before casting your ballot, 所以在你投下那一票之前，

it is worth asking the simple question: and then what? 不妨先问一句很简单的话：然后呢？

The details, as ever, are where the real choices lie. 毕竟真正的抉择，往往就藏在那些细节里。
