被诅咒的树反而带来旅游收入

A Blessing in Disguise? 因祸得福？

The tiny village of Frinley is said to possess a cursed tree. 据说弗林利这个小村庄里有一棵被诅咒的树。

Because the tree was mentioned in a newspaper, 因为这棵树被报纸报道过，

the number of visitors to Frinley has now increased. 现在来弗林利的游客数量增加了。

The tree was planted near the church 50 years ago. 这棵树是50年前种在教堂附近的。

But it is only in recent years that it has gained an evil reputation. 但也就是这几年，它才落了个坏名声。

It is said that if anyone touches the tree, 据说谁要是碰了这棵树，

he will have bad luck. 就会倒霉。

If he picks a leaf, 要是摘片叶子，

he will die. 就会死。

Many villagers believe that the tree has already claimed a number of victims. 很多村民都相信这棵树已经害了不少人。

The vicar has been asked to have the tree cut down. 有人请牧师把这棵树砍掉，

but so far he has refused. 但到现在他都没同意。

He has pointed out that the tree is a useful source of income 他指出这棵树是个不错的收入来源，

as tourists have been coming from all parts of the country to see it. 因为全国各地的游客都跑来看它。

In spite of all that has been said the tourists have been picking leaves 尽管说了这么多，游客们还是照样摘叶子，

and cutting their names on the tree trunk. 还在树干上刻名字。

So far not one of them has been struck down by sudden death. 到现在也没见谁突然暴毙。
